AGM
Wombwell Cricket Lovers’ Society will be holding their Annual General
Meeting at Ardsley Oaks WMC from 7.30pm on Thursday 30th September to
appoint Officials for 2010-11 and vote on the Society’s National Awards
for the 2010 English season. All members/new members are very welcome to
attend.

WCLS SPEAKER PROGRAMME
The Society’s 2010-11 winter speaker programme commences on Thursday
October 7th with the visit of a current Yorkshire CCC player (details to
be confirmed) at Ardsley Oaks WMC from 7.45pm – new members very welcome.
Other highlights from the programme include a Christmas Sunday lunch on
Sunday 5th December with Yorkshire CCC captain Andrew Gale, the visit of
former County/International cricketers Peter Bowler, John Shepherd, Derek
Underwood and Arnie Sidebottom plus ‘Five Live’ broadcaster Pat Murphy and
authors Andrew Collomosse, Philip Paine and Anthony Gibson. Full programme

CRICKET COACHING CLASSES
Once again the Society will be running its Winter coaching sessions at the
Bawtry Road Indoor cricket centre from 9th January 2011 through to March.
Any Club/parents wishing to enroll youngsters in the classes should

Wombwell Heritage Group – September Heritage Weekend
Wombwell High Street then and now

In the second weekend in September, as part of Heritage Open Days, St Mary’s Church will again be open, giving you another opportunity to look at Wombwell Heritage Group’s display of maps, pictures and adverts. Remember the days when we could buy anything we needed in the town centre. See images of the High Street from the 1890’s to the present day, with horse drawn carts, Burrow’s buses and the Dearne and District Light Railway. We also have movie footage from the 1960’s, including the demolition of the Empire Cinema.
And when you’re ready for a rest, sit down and enjoy a bun with a cup of tea or coffee.
Friday September 10th 10.30 – 3.30
Saturday September 11th 10.00 – 4.00
Sunday September 12th 11.30 – 1.00
And, to round the weekend off, join us for our Songs of Praise at 3.00 on the Sunday afternoon.

Fun In the Sun Event

ENJOY your summer holidays at our ‘Fun in the Sun’ event on Wednesday, 11 August, 11am to 4pm.

The community event will take place on the playing fields on Aldham Lane. Activities will include a climbing wall, face painting, arts and crafts, a bouncy castle and balloon modelling. Refreshments including hotdogs, healthy snacks and drinks will also be available.

Taking part in the event organised by the council’s Central Area Partnership Team will be Sport Activ coaches who will be on hand to ensure all children are having fun.

The event is also an opportunity for residents to meet their local ward councillors.

Barnsley Mayor Elect Cllr Karen Dyson will officially open the event at 11am.

The Central Area Partnership Team will also be carrying out the Think Local Act Local survey. As part of this they’ll ask visitors their views on council’s services delivered in their area.

Under 12s beat Hemsworth Terriors 4 0 in the League on Thursday 8th
Under 12s beat Royston Dynamos 5 0 in the League on Sunday 11th and are now in 2nd spot 1 point behind Durkar with 2 games in hand .
Under 13s beat Sandal Santos 3 1 on Tuesday 6th in the League
