Tennants Association

WHO WE ARE

A TARA (Tennants and residents association) has been working in the Wombwell Main area for the last six years. At the time it was formed TARAs also existed in Roebuck Street and Wilson Street, but both of these have now closed. The members our TARAfeel that all Wombwell people should be able to belong to a TARA, and so we have decided to extend our TARA’s area to cover the whole of Wombwell.

Our meetings are held monthly on the 3rd Thursday at Wombwell Main Community Centre, Windmill Road at 7 p.m.

If you live in Wombwell you will be made welcome if you wish join us, please contact any of the TARA officials

REACH FOR THE TOP

ABC Awards are grants given by South Yorkshire Police, to community groups who have the aim of promoting a better community for all in their neighbourhood.

These awards came to the attention of Wombwell TARA and after discussion with Wombwell Safer Neighbourhood Team, we decided to submit an application for a grant that would benefit young people.

The Junior Wardens scheme has been of great benefit to Wombwell’s young people, but is only available to 10 to 12 year olds. We decided that teenagers needed diverting away from antisocial behaviour.

We applied for funding for a scheme to encourage an improvement in the behaviour of young people who come to the attention of the Safer Neighbourhood Team and partner agencies for causing low level anti social behaviour in the community. When they come to the attention of the SNT, they will be encouraged to improve their behaviour. If they do not cause any further problems for an agreed period of time, then, they will be offered the opportunity to take part in a activity that will give them an experience that may provide them with an interest for life.

The teenagers taking part will have the chance to spend time with officers from the SNT and Berneslai Homes Impact Team in a positive environment. We believe that SNT Officers will act as a role model and build up a long term relationship with the young people involved. One of the activities planned is indoor rock climbing in which the young people will take part in a safe, managed environment.
